Empowering educators to foster inclusivity in design education

Introduction

The Design*NESS project proudly announces the launch of its Teaching Training Program, aimed at transforming design education through innovative faculty development. This initiative focuses on enhancing the skills of educators to integrate inclusivity within their teaching practices.

Design*NESS has developed a comprehensive training program for faculty members and tutors. Through a rigorous selection process, each participating institution will engage a number of teachers and tutors in a series of training activities. These educators are required to participate in at least 12 hours of training, with various modules offering flexible participation options.Key aspects of the program include:

  • Selection criteria based on subjects taught, profile selection, and motivational calls for teacher participation.
  • A joint training program for 30 teachers across institutions, delivered over three months, including blended synchronous and asynchronous remote activities, as well as in-person sessions.
  • A bottom-up survey to engage students, staff, and stakeholders in identifying areas of inclusiveness that require attention, fostering a culture of listening and understanding diverse perspectives. The program aims to create a structured training curriculum, culminating in project work that showcases the best outcomes and potentially shapes the agenda for a future Summer school.

The Design*NESS Teaching Training Program is a significant step towards fostering inclusivity in design education. By empowering educators with the necessary tools and insights, this initiative promises to cultivate a more inclusive and dynamic learning environment.
